Master at Arms 2008
July 13 - July 26
Master-at-Arms Day 1 . . .
Day one of Master-at-Arms started at 1200 with the arrival of 10 cadets at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay; two cadets dropped prior to commencement of training and the billets could not be filled prior to training. After being cleared by the Administration Officer cadets quickly learned that the sea bag list was all-inclusive and any additional items were confiscated for the duration of the training period. After checking into their room the cadets changed into PT gear and completed their first PT test. Although there were some runs that were a little off no one failed the PT test. After evening chow the cadets had training on watch standing and log keeping requirements. Lights out was at 2130 and all 10 were ready for bed, especially since Monday starts at 0500 with PT.
Master-at-Arms Day 2 . . .
The day started at 0500 with an easy 1 mile run and some physical training (PT) exercises. Today’s training started out with the Articles of the UCMJ and how much authority/ jurisdiction a Master-At-Arms has. The cadets learned the difference between apprehension and arrest. They were also taught the different types of search and seizures. The day ended with a strenuous physical training program at the base gym.
Master-at-Arms Day 3 . . .
Today started a little earlier at 0430. The cadets did PT with the active Master-At-Arms at the gym. Today’s topics were Antiterrorism/Force Protection, Physical security safeguards, self incrimination/admissions/confessions, ethics for professional law enforcement, armed sentry, entry control points (ECP), and first aid. The cadets also got a chance to do some report writing. To end the day the cadets did some more strenuous physical training (PT) at the base gym.
Master-at-Arms Day 4 . . .
Today started out with another strenuous PT with Master-At-Arms Chief Platt at 0430. After that the cadets were trained on the M-16 rifle. They were taught to assemble and disassemble the M-16 rifle. The cadets then had a chance to qualify on the rifle. I am very proud to tell you that all the cadets qualified on the M-16 rifle by US Navy standards. After qualifying on the rifle the cadets started on the Intro, assembly, and disassembly of the M9 service pistol (9mm). They then had an opportunity to shoot the 9mm pistol in the simulation room. We ended the day with a team building exercise at the bowling alley.
